The Nebulus Emergency Flotation Device is a compact, portable life-saving tool engineered for use in ice and water rescue situations. It lets a first responder do what they’ve never been able to do before: safely initiate a solo rescue without having to wait for backup.
Small and light enough to carry in the trunk of a car or on a snowmobile or ATV, the Nebulus inflates in seconds, helping a rescuer reach the victim quickly and pull them to safety. Fully inflated, it can support up to three adults and a submerged snowmobile or ATV.

WHAT IS THE WEIGHT OF THE NEBULUS FLOTATION DEVICE?
The undeployed (packed) Nebulus device weighs 17 lbs (7.7 kg).
WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS OF THE NEBULUS WHEN IT'S PACKED?
Inches: 17.5 x 11 x 5 (Length x Width x Depth)
Millimeters: 445 x 279 x 127 (Length x Width x Depth)
HOW MUCH FLOTATION DOES THE NEBULUS PROVIDE?
1000 lbs (455 kg). The inflated Nebulus has 18 cubic feet (510 liters) of volume.
HOW IS THE NEBULUS INFLATED?
Manually, via a ripcord. The user pulls/jerks the large yellow handle on the side of the device. Doing so punctures two canisters, releasing CO2 into the device to inflate it.
How quickly does the Nebulus inflate?
The device inflates in a two-stage process:
1. After the yellow handle is pulled, the device begins to inflate immediately. Within 30 seconds the device inflates to its deployed shape and volume.
2. Over the next couple of minutes, the device becomes more taut as residual CO2 fills the device.
How many times can the Nebulus be used before it needs to be recharged?
One time. Deploying the device punctures welds in the two CO2 bottles used to inflate the device, requiring them to be replaced before the device can be used again.
How do I get my Nebulus recharged?
The Nebulus must be sent back to JTW Associates to be recharged. At this point it is not user rechargeable.
What is involved in the recharge process?
1. The user must deflate the device, fold it into a box and mail it back to JTW Associates, 21025 Heron Way, Lakeville, MN 55044. The user can remove the CO2 bottles/activation lanyard to save shipping weight (use a 9/16" wrench and then recycle the CO2 bottles as steel).
2. Once at JTW, the device is pressure tested, the CO2 bottles are replaced and the device is repacked.
How long does recharging take and HOW much does it cost?
1. Once JTW receives the deployed Nebulus device, the recharged Nebulus device can be back to the owner in 7 business days.
2. The cost to recharge a Nebulus device is $299.00 USD (plus shipping and handling).
WHAT IF I NEED TO TRAIN WITH THE NEBULUS DEVICE EVERY COUPLE OF MONTHS?
There is a training version of the Nebulus device that can be inflated using compressed air from any gas station or air tank. Instead of the CO2 bottles there is a Schrader valve fitting. The user cannot practice pulling the activation handle, but can practice with the inflated device as many times as needed. The training device takes 6 -10 minutes to inflate; so it is not intended to be used in a rescue situation.
What is the cost of the Nebulus training device?
$330.00 USD (plus shipping and handling). For orders outside the Continental United States please call for shipping prices and availability.
How is the Nebulus deflated after use?
Each Nebulus device comes with a tool designed to deflate the device by unscrewing the pressure relief valve (PRV) located on the top of the device. The tool requires a rod that is inserted through it to increase leverage (less than ½ inch in diameter); — a screwdriver is the best example of this.
Can I use the Nebulus on my own to perform a rescue?
Yes. The Nebulus can be deployed instantly to initiate a rescue. However, proper cold-weather apparel should be worn if the rescue is being conducted in the winter and being a trained first responder is highly recommended.
Is any special training required to use the Nebulus?
No. Anyone can use the Nebulus device. If the device is intended to be used by first responder/rescue personnel, regular training with the device should take place.
What temperature range can the Nebulus be used in?
-40°F to 150°F.
How long has the Nebulus been in use?
Since 2003. The original version of the Nebulus was made available to select fire departments in northern Minnesota in 2003. Over the next couple of years the Nebulus was tested by these departments and improvements were made. The current version went on sale in late 2005.
Can the Nebulus be used for both ice and water rescues?
Yes. The Nebulus device is designed for use in rescues in through-ice situations (on frozen lakes during winter) and in open water where the victim needs to be backboarded.
What is the Nebulus made of?
The lift bag is made of 420 denier nylon coated on one side with a polyurethane film. The container is made of 420 denier nylon coated on both sides with a polyurethane that reduces UV degradation of the material in sunlight.
What does the Nebulus cost?
$599.00 USD (plus shipping and handling). For orders outside of the continental United States, please call for shipping prices and availability.
